Do you need a prescription for weight loss injections in Thailand?
Yes. All GLP-1 weight loss medications available in Bangkok — Ozempic, Mounjaro, Wegovy, Saxenda, and Rybelsus — are prescription-only under Thai pharmaceutical law. This applies to every clinic and every pharmacy in the country without exception.
What this means practically: you cannot walk into a pharmacy and buy Ozempic over the counter. You cannot bring a foreign prescription and have it dispensed directly. You need to see a licensed Thai doctor, have a consultation, and receive a Thai prescription before any medication can be dispensed.
This is not unique to Thailand — the same rules apply in most countries. But it does mean that any clinic or website offering to sell these medications without a consultation is operating outside the law. Beyond the legal issue, it’s a genuine safety risk — these are powerful medications with real contraindications, and the consultation exists to protect you.

A few practical things to know if you’re visiting:
Bring your medical history if you can. You don’t need to have it, but if you have records of previous weight loss treatment, blood test results, or a list of current medications, bring them. It makes the consultation more thorough and more useful.
Tell us your timeline. If you’re here for two weeks, we’ll work around that — ensuring you have enough medication for your stay plus guidance on what to do when you return home.
Travelling with medication. If you’re leaving Thailand with your medication, you’ll need your prescription documentation for customs. Keep medication in its original packaging in your carry-on luggage, not checked baggage. Not every patient needs blood tests before starting. But if you have a history of diabetes, thyroid issues, or metabolic conditions, or if you haven’t had a recent health check, we may recommend testing for HbA1c, fasting glucose, thyroid function, and lipid markers before prescribing. We can run these in-clinic at Asoke and have results typically within a few hours.

The recommendation
Based on your assessment, your doctor will recommend a treatment pathway. This may be one of the five GLP-1 medications, a different approach, or — if medication isn’t appropriate for you — an honest explanation of why and what might work better.
If medication is recommended, your doctor will explain which one, why it suits your profile specifically, the starting dose and how it will be titrated, what side effects to expect and when to be concerned, and what follow-up looks like.

Does health insurance cover weight loss medication in Bangkok?
Most international health insurance policies do not cover GLP-1 medications for weight loss — though coverage for type 2 diabetes management is more common. Frequently asked questions
Can I use a foreign prescription to get medication dispensed in Bangkok?
Not directly. Thai pharmacies require a Thai prescription. However, bringing your existing prescription or medication packaging to your HealthDeliver consultation speeds up the process significantly — your doctor can review your current treatment and issue a Thai prescription same-day.
What if I’ve already started on Ozempic or Mounjaro at home and need a refill?
We handle this regularly. Bring your current medication or prescription, attend a short consultation, and we’ll issue a Thai prescription and arrange supply. We won’t restart you from scratch if you’re already at a therapeutic dose.
Is it safe to buy weight loss medication online in Thailand without a prescription?
No. Unverified online sources frequently supply counterfeit, mislabelled, or improperly stored medication. Beyond the legal issue, the clinical risks are real — these medications have serious contraindications and dosing errors can cause significant harm. Always use a licensed clinic.
Do I need to speak Thai?
